Are you thinking of going on a trip? A winter trip?

One of my pa's favorite stories is that he was in the second session the first ever summer of NOLS. With Paul Petzoldt himself. Things are probably a lot more modern these days.

I probably won't do any big trips this winter. Although Sarge and I plan on doing some day hikes around here in the next week or two.

That's pretty cool about your dad. I haven't really spent much time researching the site but if your dad did a session way-back-when, it must have a considerable pedigree for training students in the outdoors.

If I were rich and had spare time, this would be extremely cool to do.

My understanding is that when NOLS started,it was somewhat in reaction to Outward Bound, which had a bit of a "car camping" feel to it.

Petzoldt wanted a complete wilderness training school. Complete pack-in-pack-out. Three days with only a knife and a couple fish hooks. Somewhat survivalist, I guess.
